Learn from our enthusiastic instructors the latest tools and techniques used by today’s leading mobile AR Designers. Create interactive AR experiences, UI, and more. With a combination of live and pre-recorded classes we’ll give you the tools to build your own apps.

Course Details

A beginner-level course teaching you the core concepts of AR design in Lens Studio and Unity. Over 8 weeks, you’ll create a personal project and a team project. You’ll learn AR UI/UX, how to design and import 3D objects from Blender, and mobile AR optimizations. The first class of each week focuses on learning core concepts. The second class is working in teams on the projects.

Week 1

Introduction to Unity, version control, and XR project development with a 360 video project.

  • Install and setup Unity
  • Version control setup with GitHub
  • Creating a Unity 360 video project

Week 2

You'll learn the basics of project creation, including storyboarding and how to plan out an application. Week 2 is when you learn to work in a team and delegate tasks while working in Unity.

  • Storyboarding skills

  • Complete an interactive 360 narrative

Week 3

Start your first Social AR project with Lens Studio, lens creators, assets, face tracking and world tracking. Learn to set up a Lens Studio Project with templates, building user interactions and publishing.

  • A firm grasp of building using Lens Studio
  • A functioning face tracking and world

Week 4

Dive into Unity AR projects with the Vuforia SDK. You'll create an image tracking project and explore some of the key aspects of building for AR inside Unity.

  • An firm understanding of Unity & Asset
  • Pipelines / AR SDKs / Image Targets / Assets & Materials
  • A working Base Project inside that utilizes both Unity and Vuforia SDK

Week 5

Dive into UI of AR and learn Unity's Canvas system, how buttons work in Unity, and how to setup 2D and 3D assets for AR.

  • Learn Unity’s UI Canvas
  • The basics of the animator and event systems to flesh out UI

Week 6

Setup the AR Foundations SDK. You'll learn how device tracking, surface plane detection, face tracking, the XR Interaction Toolkit and more work in Unity. You'll also learn to build an app to your phone from Unity.

  • Create a working project using AR Foundations and the XR Interaction Toolkit
  • Unity’s Device Simulator to test projects
  • Build and deploy to your phone

Week 7

In Week 7 we will discuss User Onboarding, Best Practices and Debugging your Project. We’ll take this opportunity to create an onboarding experience for both the final team and personal project. Create the complete user experience by designing an onboarding experience for both your team and personal projects. You'll also sharpen your skills with best practices and learn debugging.

  • An organized and accessible project for your future users
  • An optimized user experience

Week 8

In this final week we will take the chance to add Spatial Audio and Lighting to the projects. Adding this final layer of polish to your projects will make for a more immersive and tactile experience.

  • Finish with two polished AR portfolio pieces
  • Capabilities to build AR experiences with many devices and platforms

We have financing and scholarship options available


Applicants must meet the following program prerequisites to qualify for the program.


  • Familiarity with sketching storyboards and design layouts
  • Experience with designing assets and basic design theory
  • Knowledge of 3D Modeling Software, Rendering Software, or Application Design Software
  • Experience with some of the following: Adobe Programs, Sketch, Figma, or


  • Experience with Lighting or Material Design
  • Experience with 3D Asset Modeling software such as Blender, Rhino,
  • Maya, or Similar Program.
